Family Session | Bondi Beach

Family Session on Bondi Beach

Just prior to the mad rush of the festive season, I met this gorgeous family down on Bondi Beach for an early morning portrait session.

You may have seen my maternity images of a rather radiant Justine and newborn images of youngest son, Barnaby, back in July.  Well, with all the newly framed prints that now adorn the walls of their home, Dad began to feel a little bit overlooked - photographically speaking that is.

I feel that with this set the balance may have been restored!

Media Shoot | Car Next Door

Car Next Door, Sydney's neighbour-to-neighbour car sharing scheme hit a big milestone this week with it's official launch on Friday.

If you haven't already heard of the Car Next Door concept, the basic premise of the business is to facilitate the sharing of cars within communities on an hourly or daily basis to the mutual benefit of owners and borrowers.

The primary advantage to owners is in making money from their vehicles whilst they are not using them which goes towards offsetting the considerable expense involved in owning a car, and the benefit to users is access to an extensive and affordable fleet of vehicles on their doorstep.  In addition to this, there are clear and tangible benefits to the community and environment such as freeing up car parking spots and reducing the number of vehicles on the road.  Car Next Door modelling shows that one shared car takes eight individually owned cars off the road!

As a precursor to the official launch of Car Next Door, their dedicated team drummed up interest and spread the word by attending, amongst other places, the Saturday morning Bondi Farmers Markets held at the Bondi Beach Public School.

Last weekend the team got busy with an attempt to cram as many people as possible into a Peugeot and I was there to capture all the hilarious action.  We were just amazed by the final staggering result of 21 people!

If you are interested in learning more about Car Next Door, you can find them using the links below:

As a Car Next Door car-lender myself I can vouch for this excellent company and I wish Will, Dave and the ever-expanding Car Next Door team great success with this very worthwhile venture.

Newborn Shoot | 15-Day-Old Raphael

According to the general characteristics of placement in families, the fourth born is said to be the "child of the family" and this could not be truer of Rafi.  His three older siblings, Theo, Fifi and Amara, clearly adore their new baby brother and I am in complete awe of just how well parents, Matt and Anthea are coping with the newest addition to their brood.

Rafi was a perfect little model who just loved the "sounds-of-the-ocean" white noise track that we played to soothe him off to sleep - he's clearly a Bondi bub through and through.  He also managed to sleep straight through the combined rampaging of his three siblings and my own three children straight through his shoot, mind you!  There's a lot to be said for being fourth born.

My heartfelt congratulations to you all.

Newborn Shoot | 7-Day-Old Annabelle

I had the great fortune to photograph parents-to-be, Helen & Rob, at a beautiful Bondi Beach sunset shoot just 11 days before the arrival of gorgeous Annabelle. And what a good girl she was!  Annabelle slept for almost our entire session, just opening one eye briefly to peep out at the goings-on before satisfying herself that all was in order and going back to sleep.

Such a darling and I especially loved the Christmas set-up that we did to send out to friends and family.

Congratulations Helen and Rob!

Year in Review - 2012

What a year!

This time last year, I would never have believed that it would have been possible to achieve as much as I have in twelve months.  With a third-child in tow, I commenced my formal photography studies at the Photography Institute back in April.  Their flexible, on-line study program has meant that I have been able to learn at my own pace and have developed both the technical and business skills to take the leap into establishing my own business.

The dream has now become a reality and I have LOVED every minute of it.  Everything from countless late nights of studying and editing; lots (and lots!) of red wine when building the website, designing and ordering marketing materials;  the excitement of receiving and planning for new bookings and the thrill and pride in producing and delivering beautiful images at the end of it all.

The second half of 2012 saw me take on almost 40 photographic sessions ranging from maternity, newborn and family sessions to a couple of christenings and even a commercial shoot for Car Next Door (www.carnextdoor.com.au - look'em up if you haven't already!).

None of it would have been possible without the support of my family, my friends and my clients.  THANK YOU to each and everyone of you for your belief in me and for giving me the honour of photographing you, your children and your families.

I am looking forward to the year ahead with great excitement and can't wait to see what it holds for Rachel Wildig Photography.

The beginning of a new year is a great time to update the family pictures and here in Oz the nights are still warm and light so it's perfect conditions.  You know where to find me!

A very happy new year to you and yours,

Rachel x

Newborn Shoot | 7-Day-Old Phoebe

Welcome to my new blog which indicates the successful kick-off of my business resolutions for 2013!  Over the course of the next 12 months I aim to provide you with a glimpse of my favourite images from my maternity, newborn and family sessions.

First to hit the blog is my last shoot for 2012, which was held on Boxing Day, the beautiful Miss Phoebe Bree.  This was a super short session lasting just 45 minutes but we still managed to capture a range of beautiful images.  A very simple set-up, no props nor backdrop changes and also no sleeping for this newborn!

Welcome to the world, Phoebe, and congratulations Claire, John and big brother Finlay.
