Family Session | La Perouse

Back in May, I featured in the Melting Moments blog prize giveaway - "How to Choose a Quality Photographer".  Fellow photographer Aly, from Kuya Bunso Photography in Qld, wrote a fabulous article on the critical factors to consider when selecting a photographer to ensure that you get the best person for the job.  The full article can be read here:

The winner of my portrait session was Alicia and her lovely family, 2-year-old Grace and husband Mark.  In a move away from my familiar stomping ground of the Eastern Suburbs, we headed down to La Perouse which provided a beautiful sunset backdrop for our session.  I love this area which boasts a rocky outcrop, wooden bridge, beach and even a stone tower where we went looking for "mairies" (fairies)...

Time together is precious for this family who spend half of the time apart due to Mark's job.  I hope that these photos will be treasured during the months of working away.  Thanks for being such wonderful subjects and for allowing me to share some of your images.

Cake Smash (sort of!) | Toby

Cake smashes are quickly becoming one of my favourite sessions - they are quite frankly just plain silly.  Which is precisely what Toby thought of the whole affair too.  He was not a fan of the cake in the least but fortunately loved the first part of our session which included some time on a rocking horse and playing with some lovely wooden trains and cars.

We still managed to get some cracking images of Toby's delicate approach to his birthday cake but he's a child after my own heart who just prefers to keep his hands clean!  Tim & Emmi, count yourselves lucky!  In the end it was just more fun to drive the fire truck through the cake rather than smash it.

Happy First Birthday, Toby, you beautiful boy.  I very much enjoyed our morning together.

Family Session | Nielsen Park

It's hard to believe that winter is upon us.  The cooler temperatures are no excuse to postpone family photo sessions, however, as this selection of my favourites from a shoot last week at Nielsen Park will prove.

Olive is one of my earliest newborn clients and it was just a pleasure to be asked to photograph her and her family as she approaches her first birthday.   Such a great age to photograph little ones, after they can sit and crawl but before they can run away from the camera!

Olive is a natural who loved looking right into the camera, but her parents are self-confessed camera-phobes.  I think these images are a wonderfully genuine example of what can be captured naturally and informally, without pose and which capture the bond of a family.  Often, it is more comfortable and realistic for parents to focus their attention on their children and the images are then more relaxed and natural.

I really love this set and hope you do too.

My thanks to Cait, Al & Olive,

Rachel xxx
