Family Session | King George's Park, Rozelle

I love being taken to my client's favourite spots for photo sessions, especially if I haven't had the opportunity to shoot there before.  This amazing park is located in Sydney's inner west and has a beautiful mixture of parkland, teeny-tiny beach and harbour front.  The beautiful Rogers family have spent many happy afternoons under the shade of a tree right next to where this session was held.  I think it's these little details that add to a session's significance and of course the kids are happy in a location that they know well and enjoy.

I have know sisters Sasha and Zara all their lives so it came as no great surprise to me that instead of the traditional "cheese" refrain, they both piped up with "boobies".  Made for some beautiful natural smiles anyway!  Whatever works, eh?

On a side note, I would just like to share something that Dad, Jason, is currently involved in.  In July, he and eleven others are planning to kite-surf the 280km between Qld and PNG in July to raise funds for the McGrath breast cancer foundation.  If you are interested in learning more or in making a donation, links to their facebook site and fundraising page may be found below.

Studio Session | Luca

I predict a future as a bit of a heartbreaker for young Luca.  Have you ever seen a more mesmerising, more twinkly pair of big brown eyes?  Combined with a readiness to smile at pretty much everything, he was just a complete joy to photograph.

This set of photographs rounded off the family session at Coogee that I blogged last month and it is quite amazing how much Luca had already changed in this short period of time.  From wobbly beginnings, Luca is now sitting confidently which is just a fantastic time to schedule photos to capture this big developmental milestone.

Mini studio sessions for children are currently being run at a special price of $99 for which you receive a 30-minute session and 5 high-res images on disk.  Contact me at rachel@rachelwildigphotography.com to reserve your place.

My thanks (once again) to Sally, Raffaele &, of course, handsome Luca.

Cake Smash | Sophia

After marking the occasion of my Goddaughter's first birthday with a cake smash, I rather felt that I had short-changed my own daughter who is now already 17 months of age.  Better late than never was my sentiment and so it was that we celebrated Mother's Day with our own cake smash.

Just like her "God-cousin", Sophia embraced the event wholeheartedly and we got some beautiful images.  A number of these I have already earmarked for printing to canvas and I also put together a beautiful collage that I will be providing to clients as part of the cake smash session offering.

The price of a cake smash session has been set at $150 including cake and $120 if you opt to bring along your own.  This session fee includes a minimum of 20 low-res files in a gallery, two 5x7" prints and one 10x10" cake smash montage print.

Anyone wanting to book in for a cake smash session, please just drop me a line at rachel@rachelwildigphotograhy.com.  More details may be found at:

Family Session | Nielsen Park

Pam & John have been coming to Sydney to visit their daughter and her family for seven years now.  Their first visit coincided with my first pregnancy and there are now several children and many wines and fun times under the bridge.

I love sessions with multi-generational families.  There is something so special about the bond between Grandparent and Grandchild.  John is getting to meet his Grandaughter, Lauren, for the first time this trip which makes it all the more special and important to have images to look back upon.

As if you needed more proof that you really can't go wrong with a session at Neilsen Park, here are my favourites from the session.

My thanks to Pam & John, Sarah, Ben, Harry & Lauren xx

Cake Smash | Poppy

I have been watching the rise in popularity of cake smashes for a while now.  It intrigues me completely how this very American way of celebrating a child's first birthday has slowly but surely infiltrated our shores.

My Goddaughter's first birthday presented the perfect opportunity for me to test the hype of my "photog-friends", many of whom are engaged in regular, and very popular, cake smash sessions.

After quite a bit of research  into wipe-clean backdrops, smash-proof cake stands and which bakery bakes the best giant cupcakes in the Eastern Suburbs (enjoyed that last bit!), I was all set to go.

We started the session with some standard portraits as I had been warned that some children may not really get into the cake smashing bit.  Well, I really didn't need to worry about that with Poppy! One lick of the icing and she was away.  We finished up the session with a bubble bath which was just as well given how much cake she managed to coat herself in.

And my verdict?  Well, I'm a convert - they're silly and messy and basically fun.   Cake smashes are certain to be added to my offering very soon.
